Paws, Claws & Progress: Small Animal Care Expands at Brogdale Farm

This year, we were delighted to introduce two new Small Animal Care classes at Brogdale Farm, making this much-loved course available in both Swale and Ashford. Students have enjoyed hands-on experience caring for a wide range of animals—including Fred the tortoise, rabbits, guinea pigs, terrapins, pheasants, quail, and most recently, a bearded dragon (sadly, not fire-breathing, despite one hopeful suggestion!).

Learners have been busy developing key animal care skills, from handling and feeding to understanding habitats and welfare needs. With support from our Progressions Team, students are also exploring work experience opportunities within the sector.

Our Wellbeing Team has seen the positive impact animal interaction has on many of our learners—helping build confidence, reduce anxiety, and create a calm space to learn. It’s no wonder this course continues to be so popular across both sites!
