Kitchen to Table: Cooking Skills Brought to Life

In Food and Cookery this term, students have explored a wonderful variety of dishes, balancing ingredients, cost and cooking time. From comforting pasta to flaky pastries and vibrant vegetarian plates, learners have showcased their creativity and growing confidence in the kitchen. Meat-based dishes challenged them to perfect flavour-balancing skills, while rice-based meals introduced cultural influences and new techniques.

A highlight of the term was a hands-on visit to Perry Court Farm. Students planned recipes, budgeted for ingredients, and experienced the farm-to-table process first-hand. Using fresh, local produce, they prepared their chosen dishes—reinforcing independence, decision-making, and budgeting skills in a real-world setting.

It’s been a fantastic term of discovery, flavour, and confidence in the kitchen!
