Maths Beyond the Classroom: Real-World Learning in Action

Students strengthened their maths skills this term through hands-on activities including route planning, budgeting, pattern work, measurement, and real-life problem-solving across Faversham and Ashford.

Maths Beyond the Classroom: Real-World Learning in Action

This term, students have been putting their maths skills to the test in real-world scenarios. Craftworks College maths trips challenged learners to plan routes, budget effectively, and communicate clearly in practical situations.

They also explored “maths in motion” by tracking movements on a roundabout and converting them into degrees — a fun, hands-on way to experience geometry in everyday life.

A visit to the Physic Garden in Faversham added a fresh dimension, as students applied pattern recognition and measurement skills in a natural setting. Meanwhile, Ashford learners headed into town to compare prices and calculate shopping costs, reinforcing their budgeting and decision-making skills.

These experiences have helped bring maths to life beyond the classroom, strengthening confidence and showing students just how useful their learning can be.
